Issues

  • Paid Family and Medical Leave
  • A universal child benefit to replace the current non-refundable child tax credit
  • Universally affordable childcare that subsidizes families so that they can make the best choice, not the government
  • Universal Healthcare to ensure that no family has to endure catastrophic medical costs
  • Reform welfare by removing benefit cliffs and consolidating income support programs into one cash transfer
  • Move to the Ghent system and adopt “flexicurity” for a more flexible labor market, but greater income security
  • Fully portable employment benefits so that people aren’t stuck in job lock (some of which would be union operated under Ghent)
  • Move to automatic fiscal stabilizers that trigger when a recession is detected (using Sahm’s rule)
  • Bolster the Small Business Innovation Research Program to ensure that entrepreneurs with big ideas can scale where Venture Capital won’t
  • Work with states to remove barriers to growth for small businesses
  • Engage in regulatory streamlining and focus on making the US the best country in the world for ease of doing business
  • Prioritizing criminal justice reform to give a second chance to people who want to participate in society
  • Combating the epidemic of teacher shortage in America by paying teachers better and giving them flexibility over how they teach as long as standards are met
  • Restoring the promise of America by substantially increasing public R&D spending and investing in our tertiary educational institutions in a place-based way that ensures that all areas of this country benefit from research, not just Maryland, Virginia, New Mexico, and a handful of others
  • Cutting the immigration red tape and creating a heartland visa that incentivizes certain immigrants like doctors and construction workers to come and revitalize our struggling rural communities
Electoral Reform
  • Implement score voting and its proportional counterpart reweighted score voting or Dual Member Proportional for all federal elections
  • Eliminate gerrymandering for good by having a computer algorithm draw all congressional districts to ensure that people pick their representatives, not the other way around!
  • Constitutional amendment to get all private money out of politics and give every American eligible to vote a voucher that they can choose how to spend every election season
  • Take serious steps to curb the influence of paid lobbyists by
  •      1) Banning members of congress from entering paid lobbying for 5-7 years after leaving office
  •      2) Forbid politicians from taking donations in any form from people who are paid to lobby
  •      3) Ban politicians from any political fundraising during the workday
  • Make ballot resolutions binding and introduce them at the Federal level Congressional Reform
  • Expand the House of representatives to be more in line with the number of people represented per district in other developed nations
  • Pay members of congress more and tie pay to inflation, but make their pension benefits and other benefits contingent on having capped pay when they exit congress
  • Pay staffers better and allow for more staff to aid members of congress
  • Devolve decision making and power back to committees and away from leadership
  • Dramatically increase legislative transparency
  •      1) Mandatory 14 day period between when the text of a bill is released to members of congress and when its voted on
  •      2) Mandatory debate and deliberation over all bills
  •      3) Make public the text of bills in non-legalese form for the public and allow public comments and suggestions on legislation
  • Eliminate the fiscal gap with better tax and spending policy
  • Adopt better budget rules in congress and set a constant target for the primary structural balance somewhere around 0-0.5% of GDP deficit
  • Simplify the tax code and move to return free filing for most people
  • Broaden out the tax base significantly and combat base erosion by eliminating itemization, most business tax credits, doubling IRS funding (saves us money!), and most exclusions on certain kinds of income to prevent taxes from being higher than they need to be while raising revenue needed for research, infrastructure, education, and other critical national priorities
  • If possible, move towards progressive consumption taxation over income taxation
  • Eliminate corporate welfare and subsidies towards well established corporations
  • End Pork Barrel spending and audit the Pentagon to stop abuse from private contractors taking advantage of our military
  • Expand the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and give them the funding they need to ensure public dollars are being spent wisely (tax payers get $338 for every dollar put into the GAO)
  • Direct the United States Digital Service to fully digitize government services and fully open-source the code.
